Fashion Tips for Men
Some spring and summer staples aren’t for everyone. “Sleeveless tees and white suits — you have to be young or in good shape to pull them off,” says stylist Andrew Davis. And he’s not the biggest fan of “mandals.” “They only look good on certain people. I mean, who wants to see your toes poking out? They look especially dreadful on pale skin,” he adds. So how do you avoid being a warm-weather faux pas? Davis offers his tips:
Punch up your outfit with a pop of color
This season marks a move away from muted tones toward bold color. “Wear a beautiful bright blue or red T-shirt under a navy suit or with chinos,” Davis says.
Master the art of summer suiting
Ditch the wool tailoring for something lightweight. “Try a linen suit in soft blue or gray and wear it with a white shirt and a club or check tie. It can look really cool and classic,” Davis says. And if you’re feeling adventurous, skip the tie and rock a neckerchief.
Finally nail down the perfect casual style
Every man should have a few nautical items in his closet because they look polished, can be easily mixed and matched, and are just hard to screw up. Things to buy now: “A boxy, double-breasted jacket, a chambray shirt, chinos, moccasins, a breton top and a toggle coat,” he says.
Get your short lengths right
“Shorts are a bit shorter this season: They’re cut above the knee,” Davis explains. For weekend lounging Davis suggests a jogger short, which has a relaxed fit (important when shorts hit higher up the leg).
